Twitter in takeover talks with Google and Facebook

Google and Facebook are reportedly in takeover talks with Twitter, with the estimated value of the micro blogging site being between $8 billion and $10 billion. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, executives at Twitter have held “low level” talks with executives from Facebook, Google and other companies, in recent months about a possible takeover of Twitter.

Twitter, which allows users to post 140-character messages to groups of followers, raised $200 million in financing in December 2010, in a deal that valued the company at $3.7 billion. The micro blogging site, which was created in 2006, had 175 million users in September 2010.
