Sir Stuart Rose appointed Ocado chairman

Sir Stuart Rose has been appointed as the new chairman of Ocado, replacing Lord Grade who is standing down after seven years with the online grocery retailer. Lord Grade, who turns 70 this year and is a former executive chairman of ITV, brought the company to market in an £800m float three years ago.

Sir Stuart, who stepped down as chairman of Marks and Spencer at the end of 2010, is expected to take over as Ocado chairman after the company’s annual meeting in May.  Since leaving M&S he has taken on a number of part-time roles, including a non-executive director South African retailer Woolworths Holdings, and acting as an adviser to Bridgepoint, the private equity firm. He is also chairman of fashion retailer Blue Inc and online fashion recommendation site Dressipi.

Ocado also revealed Wendy Becker will be stepping down as chairman of the remuneration committee, to be replaced by Douglas McCallum. She plans to focus on her role as chief operating officer at Jack Wills.
