Argos to close its TV shopping channel

Argos has revealed it will close its TV shopping channel as part of its plans to focus on expanding its digital business.  Argos TV launched in June 2011 showcasing over 1,000 products each week, including celebrity ranges such as jewellery collections by Alesha Dixon and Colleen Rooney, and Davina McCall’s health and fitness products.

A spokesperson for Argos said the business would be focusing its resources on priority programmes to deliver the key milestones announced to the City in October last year.

The retailer’s parent company Home Retail Group aims to generate £4.5bn of sales for Argos by 2018 and plans to invest £100m a year in the business over the next 3 years. Last year Home Retail Group announced it would be closing or relocating 75 Argos stores over the next five years as part of its plans to transform the company from a catalogue business to a leading digital business.
