IMRG and MetaPack Launch UK Delivery Index to Track e-Logistics Trends

IMRG and MetaPack have launched a joint Index designed to enable the e-retail industry to track a range of key benchmark metrics for the first time; including parcel volumes, order values, delivery services employed and destinations served.

The monthly IMRG MetaPack UK Delivery Index will focus on data derived from dispatches from more than 220 retailers and represents more than 3.5 million orders in any single month.

We believe this will help all retailers and  organisations supporting e-retail delivery to monitor the development of e-logistics in the UK and identify areas for growth and improvement.

The information presented is aggregated from MetaPack’s extensive dataset so all retailers, carriers and other suppliers remain completely anonymous. The Index, which will be available free to IMRG members, will form a vital resource for helping companies with their operational and strategic decision-making.

The Delivery Index is launched with 5months of data (Oct – Feb) and so spans the Christmas 2011 peak season, which showed an increase in the volume of  deliveries of 56% above the pre-peak period (October). During this period the percentage of on-time deliveries or attempted deliveries dropped by 6 percentage points and it is possible that this resulted in only 90 million parcels (of an estimated 100 million), fulfilling the exact delivery promise in the run up to Christmas.

The Index is already demonstrating the importance of predictable delivery services including Next Day with about half of all deliveries to the UK mainland using this type of service. The Index is also tracking the growth of Cross Border orders as retailers look for new markets and overseas consumers target UK retailers for value and choice.
