Olympic Road Freight Management Programme
The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are going to cause huge disruption to transport in London over a prolonged period. The impact upon the fulfilment of online orders cannot be underestimated and retailers must act now to get the appropriate preparation and messaging in place.
Why does this affect online retailers?Between mid-July and mid-September, the Olympic Road Network (ORN) restrictions will be in effect in London. While roads will remain open, on several key routes vehicles will be limited to a single lane and, as traffic lights will be shut down, there will be no right turn opportunities for long stretches.
In short, these restrictions will cause the most wide-ranging disruption to online fulfilment since e-retail began.
There are several key areas to consider:
- How will you get your deliveries through to London-based consumers?
- What changes do you need to make to your online delivery options?
- What changes should you make to your stock control?
- How can you develop a communication strategy to ensure your customers do not become frustrated with delays to their purchases?
This presentation from Transport for London outlines the key information about how the Games will affect online fulfilment.
