Here are some of the retail topics that came up on social media this week.


Blue Monday

This was the week of 'Blue Monday', the 'scientifially proven' most depressing day of the year.

Naturally, some businesses have tried to capitalise on it.


Notwithstanding the idea that whole 'Blue Monday' phenomenon could be pseudoscientific, it may be as well to excercise some caution. Coming out of Christmas, with Black Friday a recent memory, shoppers may well be burned out on retail 'events', and could approach them a lot more cynically.

And with mental health being an issue of growing importance, a retailer's public relations could suffer in if they're seen to be exploiting a sensitive theme like that.
