It tracks 'online sales', defined as 'transactions completed fully, including payment, via interactive channels' from any location, including in-store, collecting sales data from over 200 retailers every month. These figures are then used to reveal the market performance across a variety of product sectors, showing year-on-year growth, average basket values, and conversion rates. The index tracks over £25 billion of UK online retailers' sales figures each year. Capgemini and IMRG also provide extensive market insight and commentary on ecommerce trends, through monthly press releases, and deep dive analysis on the monthly and quarterly indexes to help give context behind the numbers.
